This booklet is the first in a series of six that will be published to accompany the project "Une certaine idée de la France" [A certain idea of France] at the Galerie du Centre Culturel Français in Milan. Between 2010 and 2011, the project will document the visions and ideas of a group of Italian curators regarding French artists of the last two generations.
The work of Raphaël Zarka (b. 1977, Montpellier) draws from both art historical references and street culture. This eclecticism is here analyzed through an essay by Marcello Smarrelli, curator of the artist’s exhibition at the Centre Culturel Français in Milan, and a conversation between the artist and Elisabeth Wetterwald.
